Tree Service and Crew Member Job Description

 

Types of Labor

 

-This position will involve tree service and general landscaping on residential and commercial properties

-Performs all required ground, climbing, and aerial lift duties in support of specific job assignments, as directed

-Trims and/or removes trees by climbing with the aid of a ladder, safety belt, climbing line, powered trimmer lift truck, or works from the ground using saws/pruners. Will cut branches or trunk sections and drop or lower them to the ground with lines.

-General Landscaping, which may include: grading, irrigation installation, land clearing, etc.

-Use appropriate tools to fell trees or trimmed trunks and split them into manageable pieces.

-Loads and unloads trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris and/or feeds brush into a wood chipper.

-Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

 

Planning

-Must be capable of adjusting to field requirements and take independent action without close supervision

-Implement safeguards for employees and the public from hazards in and around the work area. -Cooperates with customer, police, and fire departments when blocking streets or driveways. -Sets up barriers, warning signs, flags, etc. to protect employees as well as the public. Trained to perform tree and bucket rescue.

-Maintains cleanliness of equipment and resorts any repairs needed.

-Arranges with customer or property owner ability to obtain access, advise them of interruption and explain the work that needs to be done

-Promotes and maintains good customer and public relations through effective completion of assigned work and the appropriate behavior of employees on the crew

-Keeps accurate records, timesheets, and reports related to the performance of the crew

-Leads and Trains new employees on proper procedures and daily procedures. 

-Assigns work for individual crew members and directs crew in performing work according to accepted line clearance practices

-Maintains good housekeeping on truck and at worksite locations

Safety

-Demonstrates high safety standards, sound tree risk assessment skills, equipment inspection skills, proper application of approved knots, proper climbing techniques and procedures, proper pruning and small removal skills, and proper rigging skills

-Learns, understands, and adheres to all safety rules and company safety policies

-Work around hazardous equipment and in close proximity to energized power lines.

-Work around excessive noise from machines, chainsaws, wood chippers and must wear proper personal protective equipment.

- Is exposed to all temperatures and weather; will be exposed to nature, i.e., irritating plants, biting or stinging insects, dust, etc.

-May work on rough terrain.

 

Experience and Requirements

 

Industry Knowledge and Experience

-Capable of hard labor for up to 8 hours, including heavy lifting and being constantly on your feet

-At least one year of experience with executing and planning tree service and landscaping jobs which may include: trimming, felling, stump removal, grading, irrigation, planting

-Experience and training on needed equipment: Bucket Lift, Chipper, Chainsaws, etc.

-Has a basic knowledge of trees, including identification, growth habits and correct arboricultural techniques for the trimming, pruning, repairing, maintaining and removing, as applies to working in close proximity to energized conductors

-Knowledge of knots, rigging techniques, tree cabling and bracing

 Certifications

-Drivers License and comfort navigating bucket trucks and trailers. No CDL requirement.

-Willing to get CPR and first aid certified

 

Management

-Experience with leading a crew of workers on the job

-Enforces professionalism and safety protocols, including wearing PPE

-Ability to communicate professionally, both verbal and in writing, with the general public, customers, and fellow employees

-Fluent in English and Spanish

-Possess excellent leadership skills and is able to handle stressful situations along with being able to multitask

-Experience with managing crews and jobs, customer service minded.

 

Other Qualifications

-Ability to commute to jobs within a 40 mile radius of San Gregorio, CA.

-Ability to respond to on-call emergencies, on occasion

 

Compensation and Schedule

Pay based on experience $25/hr +
